She has 20 years of experience designing and deploying machine learning systems in various applications, including biomedical signal, image, speech and text processing, in academic and industrial environments. Her current research focuses on applying deep learning models to Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks, mainly medical and social media text analysis. Dr. Nejadgholi is specifically interested in improving the trustworthiness of NLP systems through mitigation of algorithmic biases, preserving the privacy of the data owners and providing explanations to the end-users. [ The Eighth IEEE Research Boost image ] Dr. Jiho Cho, Co-Founder & VP Advanced Research at (https://www.airy3d.com/) Joint Talk Title: Transmissive diffraction masks: A passive RGBD machine vision solution Bio: Dr. Jiho Cho is a computer vision and machine learning scientist with more than 10 years of experience on designing and implementing software algorithm with a focus on depth sensing and processing. He is a Co-Founder & VP Advanced Research at Airy3D Inc. in Montreal, Canada. Airy 3D Inc. is building a depth camera that is underpinned by a transmissive diffraction mask (TDM) made with standard semiconductor technology. At Airy3D, he founded computer vision and machine learning (CVML) group and has been leading the group to develop novel algorithms to estimate depth information. He holds a PhD in Information and Mechatronics (GIST, Korea), with stints at ETHZ Zurich, the University of Tokyo and Vienna University of Technology. He published more than 20 high-impact scientific papers and 3 international and national patents. [ The Eighth IEEE Research Boost image ] Pier-Luc Tardif, Director of Business Development at (https://www.airy3d.com/) Joint Talk Title: Transmissive diffraction masks: A passive RGBD machine vision solution Bio: Pier-Luc has been a part of AIRY3D’s team for almost 3 years, initially as an imaging scientist. He is now director of business development and leads the effort of generating interest for the company in the automotive, industrial, and mobile sectors. He graduated from École Polytechnique de Montréal with a master’s degree in biomedical engineering, focused on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and other bio-photonics techniques, such as Raman spectroscopy and fluorescence confocal microscopy. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from Université de Montréal. [ The Eighth IEEE Research Boost image ] Dr. Yasaman Soudagar, CEO & Co-founder at (https://www.neurescence.com/new/) Talk Title: Simultaneous multi-region imaging of the brain of rodents during their naturalistic behavior and with neuronal resolution Bio: Soudagar holds a PhD in the field of experimental quantum optics, with focus on quantum computing. Her rigorous training enabled her to invent the optical technology of Neurescence that helps bridging this knowledge gap. Since 2015, Soudagar has raised investment from experts in both neuroscience/neurosurgery and optical fields and attracted a passionate team of individuals with deep business and technical expertise in the field. Under her leadership and in just 3 years, Neurescence has launched Quartet® – a complete hardware/software product – and will soon launch a second product, called the ChromatoneTM, which enables unprecedented insight in contribution of various types of neurons to local and long range neuronal circuitries, in relation to behavior or disease. Soudagar’s mission is to optimize therapies for the brain and the spinal cord diseases and she aims to achieve this though Neurescence makes cutting edge technologies available to scientists to push the boundaries of scientific understanding of the central nervous system.
